In Situ Calibration of Heterogeneous Acquisition Systems: The Monitoring System of a Photovoltaic Plant

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the metrological management of an acquisition system that has been developed for monitoring an experimental photovoltaic (PV) plant. The acquisition system has been conceived for comparing the performance of different PV technologies and for verifying the nominal specifications of the PV modules. For these reasons, the traceability of the monitoring system has to be ensured, and therefore, it must be periodically calibrated. A remotely exercised procedure is proposed for the calibration of the acquisition system, which is based on a calibrator specifically designed for this application. This calibrator has the capability to act as a reference for heterogeneous quantities, including electrical quantities, temperature, and solar irradiance. The architecture of this calibrator is described, and experimental results for the preliminary characterization of the prototype are described

Exposure-Tolerant Imaging Solution forCultural Heritage Monitoring

This paper describes a simple and cheap solution specifically designed for monitoring the degradation of thin coatings employed for metal protection. The proposed solution employs a commercial photocamera and a frequency-domain-based approach that is capable of highlighting the surface uniformity changes due to initial corrosion. Even though the proposed solution is specifically designed to monitor the long-time performance of protective coatings employed for the restoration of silver artifacts, it can be successfully used also for assessing the conservation state of other ancient metallic works of art. The proposed solution is made tolerant to exposure changes by using a procedure for sensor nonlinearity identification and correction, does not require a precise lighting control, and employs only free open-source software, so that its overall cost is very low and can be used also by not specifically trained operator

A Novel Calibration Algorithm for a Special Class of Multiport Vector Network Analyzers

A new error model for a special class of multiport vector network analyzers (VNAs) is presented in this paper. This model can be applied to multiport network analyzers with noncomplete reflectometers, i.e., when the measurement of the incident waves at each port is not always available. The method used to compute the error coefficients proposed here is based on a compact and easy formulation. This method is an extension of the already existing general theory for complete reflectometer multiport network analyzers. Furthermore, the new error model generalizes the theory for three-sampler two-port VNAs. The proposed model has been tested against the complete reflectometer one and exhibits the same accuracy leve

The role of phonological awareness for learning how to read: an overview

This overview aims to study the role of phonological awareness for learning how to read. We have searched studies about the relationship between this competence and reading on educational electronic databases and then we have included the studies that met the inclusion criteria. Seven studies were included. The studies show that the phonological awareness is the competence that affects more reading, even if with some difference between languages.
